License vs. sale: what happens to your data when you license it for AI
· 1 min read
When business owners first hear they can get paid for company data, the natural worry is: am I selling my business's information? The answer is no. It's a license, and the difference matters.
What a license means
A license gives us permission to use a defined set of data for a defined purpose: training AI models. We pay you for that right. You keep ownership. You choose what's included and what's left out, and your lawyer can review every term before you sign.
What happens to it
- Names and personal information are removed before training
- Your data is pooled with many other companies' data
- Models learn general patterns of how work gets done
- Everything is handled under your written license terms
The model learns how companies work in general, like how a support ticket gets resolved or how a quote becomes an order. It doesn't learn or expose your customer list.
What you control
- Scope: leave out any tool or proprietary data you want to keep private
- Approval: nothing moves until you see our offer and say yes
- Terms: your lawyer reviews the full license
How the handoff works
Nothing is shared to get a price. During pricing, we only measure how much you have. After you sign, you upload the data securely to us, and we pay your company directly.
Estimates based on recent market deals. Not a guarantee. Pricing depends on your team, tools and industry, and moves with the market.
